Feb 22: Upcycled Fashion Show
On February 22, the Upcycled Fashion Show, a benefit with all proceeds supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, was held at the Art Speaks Gallery at The Bay School. Fashionable fun was had by all.
The Upcycled Fashion Show is the brainchild of Pamela Manz, a local artist, who takes secondhand women's clothing and artfully redesigns them into one-of-a-kind fashions with creative twists.
When asked where the idea for this show came from, she said, "I've always had an interest in fashion, as an artist, former model, and seamstress. The first show I did was held at The Bay School several years ago in support of an orphanage. It was a fun challenge for me and enthusiastically received and supported.
"Friends and former models asked if I would put together another show. After the recent death of my father with leukemia, and in speaking to many with ongoing cancer concerns, I decided to perk up the doldrum month of February with a show in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's efforts.
The show focused on revitalizing one's wardrobe. Tips on current fashion trends, dressing in a Bohemian style, sleuthing thrift shops, and using line and pattern to complement individual physiques were all topics discussed. The upcycled wardrobe pieces were snipped, stitched, gathered, painted, and paired to suit the style of the models.
Pamela and all models in the fashion show have had cancer impact their lives and used this event as an inspired way to honor those lost, celebrate survivors, and inspire hope in those currently struggling with the disease.
Approximately 30 individuals attended with $1,200 raised for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Thank you to all who came and supported this worthy cause!
