December Artist of the Month: Margaret Benton-Jones

Art Speaks Gallery December 2024 Artist of the Month is Margaret Benton-Jones of Yorktown.

Margaret grew up in the Tidewater area and has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing. After retiring as an operating room nurse, she built an art studio before ever picking up a paint brush.

Her primary medium is acrylic with which she enjoys painting all subjects from sailboats to sunflowers. Margaret has a unique way of expressing her passion for life on canvas using bright colors and bold brush strokes. She paints daily in her studio and has developed her skills over the years with workshops and online classes. Margaret enjoys sharing her passion to paint with others by speaking at special art events and providing painting demonstration and credits her creative success to her faith in God.

When asked to describe her work, Margaret says, "For me, my art transports me to a place where time has no value. I love expressing my enthusiasm for life on canvas through the use of colors and brush strokes. I admire many artists like Van Gogh and Monet. In my paintings, I interpret places I have been or dreamed of going and hope to lift the viewers' spirits as it has mine with each creation."

Margaret's work will be on display thru the end of December.  You also can shop her work online at Margaret Benton-Jones Collection – Bay School Community Arts Center.
