Blacksmithing - Elementary Forging
Class participants will learn to heat and draw out iron to form useful and or decorative art. Students will learn proper use of hammer and anvil to taper, flatten, fuller and twist metal to bring it to life. The class will start with a brief review on safety and then move on to a demonstration on our project of the day. Each student will then be given metal with which to make a decorative wall hook or a letter opener. Examples can be viewed at The Bay School. Bring safety glasses, a heavy apron or coveralls, a 16-20 oz. ball peen hammer, 8-12 inch vice grip pliers, soft leather gloves that fit your hand so that you can feel your work.
