Community Connections

The Bay School exists for the artistic and cultural enrichment of the regional community.

     The Bay School partners with groups such as the Mathews Family YMCA, the Mathews Memorial Library, Mathews Woman's Club, the Mathews Boys and Girls Club and the Virginia Cooperative Extension Mathews Offices to find ways to make art accessible and fun for everyone.

Through individual, foundation, local and state agencies' support, we provide art programs to the following organizations:

  • Mathews Boys and Girls Club
  • Mathews Active Lifestyle Center
  • Riverside Convalescent Home
  • The Laurel Shelter
  • Kingston Parish Pre-School
  • Mathews Head Start
  • Mathews County Special Education children
  • Mathews County 2nd and 3rd grade children - art in the SOL curriculum
  • Sanders Assisted Living
  • Urbanna Adult Day Care
  • Brambles Adult Day Center
  • We also host a Christmas sing-a-long for the Lewis B. Puller Center of Gloucester.

In March, we host a Family Art day.  This is a free day of art activities, music and fun for children.

In August, we host with the Mathews Woman's Club, two free weeks of art.  In 2008, we will be partnering with the Mathews Family YMCA and the Mathews Memorial Library to make this more of well-rounded camp for ages 4-14.

Our community outreach also includes:

  • Open Mike for writers every 1st Sunday of the month from 2-4pm;
